Valet Parking FAQs

Valet Parking is a convenient parking option. At some formal events and some hotels, it's the only option for parking. If you're new to using valet parking, here are 5 things you need to know about using valet parking to have a good experience:

Always wait in your car.
When you're using a valet parking, it's customary to sit in your car and wait until the parking attendant comes to you for your car. This is usually for safety reasons and makes the hand off much easier.

Tip the parking attendants twice
Yes, valet parking costs more than regular parking but that doesn't give you an excuse to skimp on tipping. Tip the attendant you hand off your car to and the one who returns it. Most times it's not be the same person but even if it is, you should tip them twice.

Tidy your car up
While life sometimes gets in the way and we drive around with more things and garbage than we plan to. If you're using valet service, you should tidy and organize your car a bit before bringing it there. Move clutter to the trunk, throw out garbage, wash mats and ensure that your vehicle smells pleasant.

Be upfront about your expectations
You may not be satisfied with the manner in which a parking attendant handled your car, if you notice them driving too fast or recklessly speak up and let them know that your expectations are.

You do not have to take your car out to retrieve things, but you can
If you need to get things from your car, you can retrieve it from the parking garage yourself sometimes. On other occasions, your vehicle may be parked at another location, so it would be harder to retrieve things. Always bring what you need with you but if you need the parking attendant to retrieve anything, you will have to tip them.
